General Course Information for CHM 205

Welcome to the e-course version of Chemistry 205.

We will be doing most of our communication by electronic means. All emails will go to your official MU email address (lastname0n@marshall.edu or lastname0nn@live.marshall.edu). If you send me an email message I respond to the address that was used to send the message.

I normally post general announcements as an announcement in the course and I send a copy of the announcement to your email address.

You may send e-mail directly to my Marshall address (anderson@marshall.edu) or you can use the message tool that is built in to the course.  I normally check my MU mail about twice a day and I normally check the course for messages at least once a day.  If you ever send a message by either route and don't get a reply within 48 hours you can assume that something has gone wrong with the message system and you should resend the message.   If I am going to be out of touch for more than 24 hours I normally post this at least a week ahead of time.

NOTE WELL:  If you use standard internet mail, you should always include the course number (CHM 205) in your subject line -- I get a lot of email and try to give priority to course related mail but I have to know that it is course related mail to do that.  If you use standard internet email from an account other than your MU account, you MUST include your full name as it appears on my class list.  Whether you use you MU account or another account, you must specify the course you are registered for.  And, don't just say "the next exam" or "the next quiz" -- be sure to specify exactly which quiz or exam you are talking about.  Failure to follow these requirements can result in delays because I may have to get back to you to get the required information.

You may start on the course at any time that you are ready once the Blackboard Adminstrator "turns the course on" - this normally happens during the morning that classes start.  Your account has already been established so all you have to do is log in and start.  Using your browser, go to http://www.science.marshall.edu/anderson/ and you will find links to the syllabus, instructions on how to get started, and other useful information for the course.

You will probably want to visit the Browser Support area within "Blackboard Help" for details.  We are using Blackboard Ultra.  Preferred browsers are Firefox or Google Chrome on a Windows based system or Safari on a Macintosh system.

Be sure to read through the entire syllabus.

Again, please feel free to contact me by e-mail if you have any questions. It is much easier to handle questions at the beginning than to have them cause problems later. Sometimes there are several people having the same problem and if that is the case I can try to fix things before everyone runs into the problem.
