Field Trips

Geology is the study of the earth in all its many varied and awesome aspects. The rocks that make up the earth and the events that create them are best appreciated "in the field". This means outdoors on outcrops of bedrock in road cuts, quarries, and natural cliffs. The Huntington tristate area (WV-KY-OH) is blessed with a wide range of geologic features. Introductory students in GLY 200 and 201 get a taste of rocks, minerals, and fossils of the region and insight into the geologic processes that produced them. These trips are led by highly experienced Geology professors with a passion for the geosciences and who are well versed in the pure and applied aspects of geology.
